Krohn Vintage Port 2003 is an award-winning Port from the acclaimed 2003 vintage. Deep and still youthful in colour, the nose has intense plum and cherry notes with sweet spices and hints of vanilla. The palate has more structure from fresh concentrated plum and cherry flavours and mirrors the nose with layers of fruit and spice. Drinking well now, but still has many years ahead.
Wet weather in winter and spring of 2003 was followed by a very hot August. Grapes showed high concentration and sweetness but relatively low acidity. The result is this award-winning Port - rich, powerful and complex.
Wiese & Krohn was founded in 1865 by two Norwegians - Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range for a small house and each wine excels in its category. The Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley, is all A grade vineyard. Vinification takes place here, with some of the top wines still being trodden by foot. Since 2013 Krohn has been part of the Fladgate Partnership - alongside Taylor's, Fonseca and Croft.
