Painted Wolf Pictus

Category: Tags: ,

Painted Wolf Pictus Painted Wolf Pictus III is a full-bodied yet elegant blend of Shiraz, Mourvedre and Grenache. Limited release with unique artwork on each vintage this wine will age at least 10 years. A rich full bodied wine which combines charm with power – red berry and spicy with a long satisfying finish.

Pictus is named after the scientific name for an African Painted Dog, Lycaon Pictus, meaning Wolf in Greek and Painted in Latin. Painted Wolf Pictus is a wine made with meticulous care and blended from some of my favourite barrels of the vintage. Pictus 2010 is the second of a series of wines featuring a different piece of artwork each year.
The art work for Pictus 2010 features the painting ‘Moremi Wild Dogs‘ by artist Saskia ‘Crocbait’ von Sperber

Jeremy and Emma Borg founded Painted Wolf Wines to create unique wines from a small number of growers in some of South Africa’s prime sites, including Paarl, Swartland and Stellenbosch – low-yielding areas which are mostly unirrigated and farmed organically or with minimal organic outputs.
They called their company Painted Wolf, after the endangered African Wild Dog. The Painted Wolf ‘pack’ is their community of talented individuals who bring the best available grapes, technical and practical skills, resulting a range of delicious, authentic and satisfying wines.
Five percent of Painted Wolf’s profits from UK sales are donated to Tusk Trust, which not only funds projects to protect wildlife, particularly endangered species, but also helps to alleviate poverty through sustainable development and education amongst rural communities which live alongside wildlife.
