Glaetzer Amon-Ra is one of the Barossa Valley's iconic wines. Highly regarded winemaker Ben Glaetzer sources fruit from dry farmed 50-130 year old vines in the Barossa sub-region of Ebanezer. Intense and full flavoured, yet elegant and complex. A nose of pure black fruit and fragrant spice. Rich, full and concentrated with black plum and spice flavours. Will benefit from long term ageing over decades.

Amon-Ra Shiraz is an iconic wine that epitomises Ben Glaetzer's passion to create wines that are full flavoured, multi layered and intense but still elegant, stylish and finely balanced.

In Egyptian mythology, Amon-Ra is considered to be the king of all gods. The temple of Amon-Ra was believed to be the first temple to ever plant a monoculture vineyard to produce wine for the citizens of the temple.

The eye on front of the label is the all-seeing eye of Horus or wedjat ("whole one") - a powerful Egyptian symbol of protection. It is represented as a figure with six parts, corresponding to what Egyptians regarded as the six senses; touch, taste, hearing, sight, smell and thought.

Ben created Amon-Ra Shiraz to appeal to all these six senses.

The irrepressible Ben Glaetzer is the driving force behind Glaetzer Wines. Ben graduated in winemaking from Adelaide University in South Australia after working at Barossa Valley Estate during school and university holidays.

After travelling extensively throughout many of the worlds wine regions, Ben returned to the Barossa and joined the family company. Ben's ability to blend traditional winemaking techniques with a modern flair is reflected in the style of wines under the Glaetzer label. He makes unique, elegant wines with minimal intervention, which are regarded as classics and unmistakably Barossan.

Along with the numerous trophies and awards for his wines, Ben's winemaking honours include:

Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year
Robert M. Parker Jnr Wine Personality of the Year
New World Winemaker of the Year in Behind the Label (UK)
"Baron of the Barossa" for his contribution to the cultural fabric of the Barossa Valley.
