In March we look forward to welcoming Susana Felix from Enate winery, Somontano in northern Spain. We will be hosting a Tasting and Tapas night in the shop on Wednesday 25th March 7-9pm. Numbers are limited with tickets in advance at £15, which includes 15% off Enate wines on the night. Susana is a very engaging speaker and the wines are wonderful. Please get in touch if you would like to buy tickets.
We hope to see you soon,
Simon and the Talking Wines Team
The Art of Wine
Wine sometimes transcends the science of fermenting grape juice into something more elevated. This is certainly the view of the Enate winery where art has been combined with wine-making to great effect. Local artists have been commissioned to produced an interpretation of each wine for a unique set of labels that now form an art museum at the winery.
Enate is a village that lies in the region of Somontano, nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Somontano sits at a higher altitude than most of Spain's wine regions and combined with the cooling effect of the mountains it creates a fresher style of wines very different to the rest of Spain.
The winery was built in 1993-97 on hills overlooking the vineyards. It is no ordinary winery. Whilst the wine-making cellar is state of the art computer controlled precision, the architecture of the building combines nature and light to create a sense of space and the outdoors. The large spaces are designed to present the art at its best. We have even taken some of the Enate art to display in our newly decorated shop.
The wines are special too. Forget any preconceptions of Chardonnay, the Enate Chardonnay 234 is made in a zingy fresh style with great minerality. It has become a firm favourite at Talking Wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon Rosado is also untypical with a freshness combined with rich fruit. The reds also do not disappoint with the Tapas Tempranillo showing pure fruit and the Tempranillo Cabernet Crianza combining intense black fruit with elegance.
We have the pleasure of hosting a visit from Susana Felix from Enate later this month where Susana will be taking us through a tasting of these wines and explaining more about the philosophy of Enate.
