WINE TALK June 2020

After a difficult couple of months, Talking Wines is emerging from the lockdown with a stronger offer than ever for our customers. We have added new wines to the range and have launched our new website

We have had great initial feedback from the website and to reward you for supporting us we would like to offer you a 10% discount for one order in June over £100 via the website. You can share this code with family and friends to introduce them to Talking Wines. Just key the code JUNE10 at checkout or follow the link to benefit from the discount.

We have re-opened the shop and are welcoming two customers at a time, keeping a safe distance between customers and with staff. We are fortunate to have a large spacious shop so that we can operate in a safe environment during the current COVID-19 restrictions.

For those who prefer not to come into the shop, our delivery service continues, which respects the two metre distancing advice from the government. You can place orders online or call the shop 9am-5pm Monday-Friday and Saturday 10am-4pm. We will deliver to you and leave the case outside your door, alternatively you can collect from the shop and we will place the case outside on the path for you.

Many thanks for all those who have been supporting us during this difficult time. If you would like to recommend us to any friends it would be greatly appreciated and don't forget to mention the 10% discount in June. Any mentions on social media and links to your contacts would also be very helpful.

We wish you all well and hopefully we can all return to normal later in the year.

Best wishes

Simon and the Talking Wines Team

Leader of the Pack

Painted Wolf Wines are the realisation of a dream for winemaker Jeremy Borg and his wife Emma. Jeremy and Emma became fascinated with African Wild Dogs whilst working in the wildlife parks of South Africa. When they married they made a promise to themselves to raise funds for this endangered species.

Having moved to Paarl, in 2006 Jeremy persuaded a few friends to provide seed capital to found Painted Wolf Wines. In addition vineyard owners joined the ‘Wolf Pack’ to provide fruit for the wines in a co-operative project. From the release of the first wines in 2007, Painted Wolf wines have received critical acclaim.

Jeremy has been true to his word and has worked with the TUSK organisation and the Endangered Wildlife Trust to donate funds from the sales of Painted Wolf Wines to projects to help the preservation of African wild dogs.

The African wild dog is Africa’s most endangered carnivore with an estimated 6,000 dogs surviving. They are very social creatures and effective hunters, living on the African grasslands where their habitat has been lost to humans. They are also highly susceptible to disease from domestic dogs.

The Den range of wines include a Chenin Blanc, Pinotage rosé and red Pinotage. They are all made in a very approachable style in a natural way to express the fruit of the region. The Madach or Cape Hunting Red is a blend of Pinotage Shiraz Merlot Grenache Mourvedre and is made in the style of a southern Rhône, with South African twist.

Guillermo Pinotage is named after Billy ‘Guillermo’ Hughes who was one of the first investors, trading grapes for shares in Painted Wolf. Billy’s vineyards are organic and naturally farmed. The wine shows bright red fruits with spicy notes, a real favourite of mine.

Jeremy’s top wine Pictus, named after the latin name for African wild dogs, is made in limited quantities one for every surviving wild dog. It is a full-bodied yet elegant blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan. A delight to the senses and a reminder of the fragile existence of this fascinating species.

To introduce you the the fantastic Painted Wold Wines, we have put together a Discovery Case of six Painted Wolf wines from the range for just £78. The case includes a bottle each of The Den Chenin Blanc, The Den Pinotage Rose, The Den Pinotage, Madach, Mourvedre and Guillermo Pinotage.
