Now for Something Completely Different

With most of the population in lock down, what better thing to explore with your time than some unusual wines from lesser known grape varieties or regions that produce some excellent wines. Just to whet your appetite here a few ideas that you might pique you interest.

One of Spain's best white varieties is Verdejo and Diez Siglos produce a wonderful example with the characteristic Verdejo sour notes. Made from old bush vines planted on the gravel vineyards of Rueda, it has great texture with peach and apricot flavours.

The region of Navarra lies adjacent to Rioja in north west Spain and is planted with a mixture of Spanish and French grape varieties. Castillo de Eneriz produces some amazing value wines. We have recently added their unoaked, fresh Chardonnay with tropical fruit flavours. A perrenial favourite has been the Reserva, a blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Tempranillo aged in oak for 18 months to give a soft yet fresh wine where the oak is perfectly integrated with the fruit.

From further afield, our friends at Los Vientos in Uruguay produce a stunning and very unusual white. Estival is a unique blend of Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay and Moscatel giving a complex array of flavours ranging from passion fruit, pineapple and citrus.

Across the River Plate in Argentina, Familia Falasco have elevated Malbec to a new level by blending it with Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The result is wine that is more than the sum of its parts with complex spicy black fruits, Falasco Hermandad Blend.

There are many more different wines for the more adventurous to choose from in our range. If you need any help, we are always pleased to make recommendations and help you on your journey of wine discovery.
