A Grenache, Merlot, Cabernet Franc blend from a family-owned vineyard near the Pyrenees. Limoux Chateau Saint-Roch has ripe juicy fruit and is velvety smooth with herbaceous notes. Warm and comforting.
A small enclave on the river Aude, Limoux is about 19 miles due south of Carcassonne. It is one of southern France’s hidden gems, best known for its sparkling Blanquette wine but now carving out a reputation for the quality of its still wines, which provide excellent value for money. Limoux’s elevation in the foothills of the Pyrenees moderates the extremes of the Mediterranean climate, making it much cooler than other Languedoc appellations, and imbuing finesse to the wines.
Château Saint-Roch has been in the Ginestous family since the 17th century. The current owner and guardian is Jacqueline Menard de Ginestous who continues the family winemaking tradition. The estate’s 88 hectares of vines are on a hillside facing the stunning Pyrenees Mountains, at an average elevation of some 300m.
