Araucano Reserva Carmenere is a rich, concentrated wine with abundant ripe elderberry fruit. Deep crimson in colour with hints of rosemary and eucalyptus make this a complex, full-bodied, intense wine.
Francois Lurton (of the famous Bordeaux family) is renowned for creating distinctive and high quality wines. He purchased the Araucano Estate in the year 2000 after realising the potential of the cool, ocean influenced site at Lolol in the Colchagua Valley.
François immediately realised that the terrior had lots of potential, with its gravel schist soils and cool climate providing ideal conditions for producing complex wines. He was the first to plant vines in this picturesque valley which lies east-to-west and funnels cool air from the Pacific, 40 kilometres away.
Today there are 26 hectares of vines and many of the wines are certified organic, but in 2007 he took on a Biodynamic consultant to transfer the vines into Biodynamy. Today this has been 100% adopted in their vineyard and they have found that their wines have substantially increased in their aromatic complexity. François believes that “producing wine as naturally as possible is good for the environment, good for consumers, and tastes better!”
